A Miami Gardens crash that killed three children and their grandmother on Saturday evening is now being linked to 25-year-old Antonio Wilcox Jr., who is facing four counts of vehicular homicide. Police say Wilcox was speeding at 99 mph at the time of the collision, which occurred at Northwest 170th Street and 37th Avenue. Surveillance footage revealed Wilcox’s black Kia Sorrento rear-ended a white Nissan Altima, causing it to crash into a Cadillac Escalade.
The victims include siblings Kamari Graham (10), celebrating his birthday, 8-year-old Azariah McCall, and 10-year-old Ireanna Johnson, as well as their 51-year-old grandmother, Rosa Jones. Three others, including the children’s mother and another sibling, are critically injured. A family friend’s son, 7-year-old Cyrus Rankin, was also hospitalized in critical condition.
Miami Gardens Police have confirmed Wilcox had alcohol in his system and was being tested for other substances. They also noted that at least three passengers in the car were not wearing seatbelts. Wilcox, who remains hospitalized, is expected to be booked into jail after his release.
Police condemned Wilcox’s reckless behavior, calling the crash one of the worst they’ve seen in their careers. Authorities emphasized that anyone driving recklessly would face the full extent of the law.
