Commissioner Raquel Regalado formally requested the deferral, which means the commission will soon decide how long to delay the issue. Recently, political pressure has mounted, with figures like Eric Trump, who met with Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez to express concerns about the incinerator’s proximity to Trump National Doral. In response, Levine Cava emphasized that all options remain open, including further exploration of landfilling as a possible alternative.
Doral’s mayor, Christi Fraga, welcomed the deferral, viewing it as a step toward finding a more suitable long-term solution. She and other stakeholders are actively seeking alternatives that would address both environmental and community concerns.
