Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced more than $38 million in development block grants to cities and counties across the state on Thursday, focusing on infrastructure and rural support.

Speaking in Arcadia, alongside Florida Department of Commerce Secretary Alex Kelly and Senate President Ben Albritton, DeSantis emphasized the importance of bolstering smaller communities. “Florida supports rural communities,” read the sign at the podium.

Among the largest awards:

  • Arcadia will receive $6.4 million to upgrade its water treatment plant, a project expected to benefit about 8,000 residents.

  • Florida City in Miami-Dade County will get $5.9 million to address deteriorating water treatment facilities.

  • St. Lucie County will receive $950,000 for local improvements.

The governor said the investments aim to improve critical services like clean water, enhance quality of life, and ensure rural communities aren’t left behind in Florida’s growth.
