Delray Beach Fire Chief Ronald Martin has vowed to enhance safety measures following a crash between a Brightline train and a fire rescue truck on December 28, 2024, which left 13 injured. Three firefighters and 10 train passengers were hospitalized after the fire truck reportedly drove around crossing arms and into the path of the high-speed train while waiting for another train to pass.
The crash, which severely damaged the fire truck and train, was caught on camera, sending shockwaves through the community. Martin expressed relief that there were no fatalities, offering his thoughts and gratitude to those affected.
“We remain committed to working diligently to implement improvements to prevent future incidents,” Martin said. Delray Beach Fire Rescue is fully cooperating with investigations by the Delray Beach Police Department, Brightline, and the National Transportation Safety Board.
While details of the fire truck’s call were not disclosed, Martin emphasized the importance of balancing the urgency of emergency response with safety precautions.
