A domestic dispute in Tamarac escalated tragically on Saturday, culminating in a fatal officer-involved shooting near a Tri-Rail station in Fort Lauderdale.
Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) responded to a call of an aggravated assault at a residence on Granville Drive, where 64-year-old Robert Drangel allegedly threatened his estranged wife and another woman with a firearm. Drangel then fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.
A high-speed pursuit ensued, involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The chase ended near the Tri-Rail station, where BSO deputies performed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. Fearing for their safety, four deputies opened fire, fatally wounding Drangel.
Drangel was under court order to wear an ankle monitor due to a prior arrest for aggravated stalking. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting incident.
