A tragic crash during Wednesday’s evening rush hour shut down the southbound Palmetto Expressway (SR-826) in northwest Miami-Dade, leaving one person dead and another hospitalized.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a white Audi sedan struck a concrete barrier near Northwest 103rd Street before colliding with a Ford pickup truck. The Audi overturned, ejecting both occupants. The female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the male driver survived with non-life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Chopper6 footage showed traffic gridlock stretching for miles, with all southbound lanes closed at Northwest 122nd Street. Motorists endured hours of backups as emergency crews cleared the wreckage. The roadway reopened around 9 p.m., but not before commuters faced a massive traffic nightmare.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
