A Miami-Dade couple was arrested Friday after Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives caught them stealing a car in Hollywood with their young child asleep in the back seat.

Jeyson Javier, 32, of Opa-locka, and Daniela Alfonso Dominguez, 25, of Miami Gardens, each face charges of grand theft auto, child neglect without great bodily harm, and possession of burglary tools.

Detectives from BSO’s Burglary Apprehension Team were already tailing Javier when his Honda Civic pulled into an apartment parking lot at 2200 S. Ocean Drive in Hollywood. Javier then broke into a Honda CRV, started it, and drove off. Dominguez followed in the Civic as the two vehicles made their way to Miami Gardens, where Javier was seen ripping out what detectives believed was the vehicle’s GPS tracker before stashing the stolen car at an apartment complex on Northwest 17th Avenue.

Javier then returned to the Civic, where detectives moved in and arrested both suspects. The couple’s child was found asleep in the back seat.

“They put his life in danger as they drove around scouting cars for vehicles to steal,” the arrest report stated.

Inside the Civic, detectives found aftermarket Honda key fobs consistent with vehicle reprogramming, a tablet used to override car electronics, and multiple screwdrivers and lock-punching tools. Javier also had outstanding warrants for loitering, resisting arrest, grand theft auto, and driving on a suspended license.

Investigators noted that while Dominguez did not personally steal the CRV, she drove the getaway car, followed the stolen vehicle to multiple locations, and picked Javier up after he stashed it. Both were booked into jail.
