A California woman was arrested at Miami International Airport after authorities said she attempted to fly overseas with more than 36 pounds of cannabis packed inside her luggage.

According to an arrest report, Taylor D. Woods, 30, of Compton, was taken into custody Sunday as she prepared to board a flight to London. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers became suspicious after a K-9 unit alerted to one of her checked bags.

Investigators said Woods told officers she had flown from Los Angeles to Miami and had personally packed all of her luggage. When authorities searched the bags, they found no clothing or personal items. Instead, the suitcases contained 30 sealed brick-like packages holding a green leafy substance.

The substance tested positive for marijuana and hashish, with a total weight of approximately 16.45 kilograms — about 36.26 pounds — according to police.

Woods was booked into the Miami-Dade Corrections system and later appeared before a judge. During the hearing, the judge noted that the case resembled several recent arrests involving travelers from California allegedly attempting to smuggle cannabis to Europe.

The court set Woods’ bond at $10,000 and appointed a public defender to represent her. She faces a cannabis trafficking charge, which carries serious legal consequences under both U.S. federal law and international drug trafficking statutes.

Authorities have not said whether investigators believe Woods was acting alone or as part of a larger smuggling operation.
