A person was found dead inside a burning car in a Walmart parking lot in southwest Miami-Dade Monday evening, sparking a homicide investigation.
The fire occurred around 7:22 p.m. near Southwest 136th Avenue and 288th Street. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and extinguished the blaze, only to discover the body inside. The victim’s identity and gender have not been released.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud boom but were puzzled, as the car appeared to be moving at the time. “It’s very weird for a car to explode while driving,” said one bystander.
Authorities have not determined the cause of the fire, and homicide detectives remain on the scene. Investigators have yet to confirm whether foul play is suspected, but the unusual circumstances and immediate presence of homicide units point to possible criminal involvement.
The incident raises questions about vehicle safety, potential arson, or even a targeted act. Officials are urging anyone with information or video footage to come forward.
