A Pinecrest road confrontation that went viral has led to the arrest of 61-year-old Silvia Carmen Perez, who is accused of grabbing a minor’s phone during a heated exchange with a group of kids on electric bikes.

According to Miami-Dade Police, the incident unfolded on October 18 near Southwest 57th Avenue. The kids told officers they were riding in the roadway when a black Bentley pulled up behind them. The driver, identified as Perez, got out and yelled at them to move. They shifted onto the bike path, but Perez reportedly repositioned her Bentley to block their path and confronted them again.

One teen began recording as Perez approached, shouting. The video shows her snatching a phone from a child’s hand, causing it to fall. Officers say she grabbed the phone, threatened to throw it into a canal, and then tossed it back on the ground before leaving.

The video, later shared widely on social media, triggered public outrage. The arrest affidavit says Perez also exchanged words with bystanders who attempted to intervene.

Perez was charged with battery and robbery by sudden snatching. Appearing in bond court, her attorney disputed the police narrative, claiming she confronted the teens for popping wheelies and creating a hazard. Judge Mindy Glazer said she would “barely” find probable cause but ultimately released Perez on her own recognizance. The prosecutor countered that the video clearly shows Perez taking a child’s phone.

The case continues to spark debate over safety, accountability and the growing tensions between drivers and young e-bike riders in suburban Miami-Dade.
