He was assassinated in his mansion by Andrew Cunanan, who had lived on Ocean Drive for the past five years before he committed the crime. After his death, his house became a boutique hotel. Remarkably, these buildings were almost destroyed by developers in the early 1970s. The Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) was founded in 1976 by a handful of activists, which is the survival of Miami’s historic buildings.
