Former NFL star Antonio Brown is back in U.S. custody and headed to Miami, where he faces an attempted murder charge stemming from a shooting outside a celebrity boxing event in May. Miami Police confirmed the 37-year-old was extradited from Dubai, with U.S. Marshals noting he arrived Thursday through Newark and was booked into the Essex County Jail.

A warrant issued in June accuses Brown of opening fire during a chaotic brawl outside the venue near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street. An off-duty officer working security told investigators he saw Brown fighting with another man moments before gunfire erupted. Video posted online captured portions of the scuffle involving Brown.

Witnesses identified Brown as the shooter, though police said he didn’t have a weapon on him when detained. Investigators recovered two spent shell casings and an empty holster at the scene.

While abroad, Brown posted videos appearing to taunt Miami Police. “No matter who you are… if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we’re going to locate you,” said Police Spokesperson Michael Vega.

Brown has denied being the aggressor, claiming he was jumped by several individuals attempting to steal his jewelry. In a post on X, he said officers “temporarily detained” him to hear his side of the story before releasing him.

He will remain in New Jersey until transported to Miami-Dade County Jail. Miami Police called the arrest the result of “relentless work” with state and federal partners.

Once one of the NFL’s most dominant receivers, Brown’s career was marked by both brilliance and controversy, including suspensions for conduct violations, legal troubles, and accusations of sexual misconduct.
