A Young Man’s Light Extinguished at Miami Festival

A 23-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday night at the Taste of Miami Karnival in Little Haiti, leaving his family shattered. Kitchner Cyrille, known to loved ones as Junior, was near the main stage on Northeast 2nd Avenue when gunfire broke out. Two others — a man and a woman — were wounded in the arm and leg. No arrests have been made, though police have identified a person of interest.

Cyrille graduated from Miami Edison Senior High School, ran track at junior college, and was known for his love of fitness and the outdoors. His family called him the most helpful person they knew. “Great smile, great energy, great aura,” said his uncle. “This is not how the story was supposed to end.”
