Miami Fire Captain Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges — Again

A veteran Miami Fire Rescue captain faces serious domestic violence charges following his arrest Saturday on allegations of assaulting his wife inside their home. Maximo Vasquez, 43, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, strong-arm robbery, and false imprisonment.

According to the arrest report, Vasquez approached his wife with a hammer and threatened to smash her car windows. He then followed her inside, took her cellphone, shoved her onto a couch, slapped her repeatedly, and struck her in the head with the phone. An anonymous 911 call reported a disturbance, but the victim initially told responding deputies she was fine. She sought hospital treatment the following morning, after which Vasquez was arrested.

Surveillance footage obtained by NBC6 showed sheriff’s deputies arriving at Vasquez’s home armed with long guns, ordering him to the ground.

A judge set bond at $17,500 and ordered Vasquez to have no contact with his wife and to surrender all weapons. Miami Fire Rescue placed him on relieved-of-duty status pending investigation.

This is Vasquez’s second arrest in under a year. In June 2025, he was accused of assaulting a deputy while trying to report his wife missing. That case was dismissed after he completed an advocacy program. His wife told NBC6 she is struggling emotionally and mentally.
