Rachel Price is recovering from severe burns after her roommate, Kymesha Tarpley, allegedly doused her with gasoline and ignited it inside their Hollywood, Florida apartment last month.

The two women had a disagreement before Tarpley left — and returned with a gas can. “She tossed it, and when she tossed it, she tossed the lighter,” Price said. “I didn’t have a chance to react or anything.”

Price sustained burns to her face, arm, leg, and hair. She was hospitalized for nearly a month. “I never would have imagined she would do something so vile,” she said. “I could have been blind if I didn’t close my eyes.”

Tarpley is charged with second-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery, and arson. She is being held at the Paul Rein Detention Facility without bond. A GoFundMe has been set up for Price, who is now seeking new housing.

“I’m grateful every day,” Price said. “I thank the Lord for being alive.”
