Husband of Actress Devon Aoki Arrested in Coral Gables Hit-and-Run

James Hunter Bailey, the husband of actress and model Devon Aoki, has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Coral Gables that left a scooter rider seriously injured, police said.

Bailey, 40, is charged with leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury and resisting an officer without violence, according to Miami-Dade jail records.

The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Douglas Road and Giralda Avenue. Witnesses told police that an Audi SQ7 struck a man riding a stand-up scooter in a crosswalk and then fled the scene. Surveillance cameras captured the SUV leaving the area.

The victim, identified as Jonathan Stephen King, suffered serious injuries to his foot, including two fractures, as well as a large contusion to his calf. King’s girlfriend told police she ran to the driver’s side of the vehicle, begging the driver to move as King’s foot was trapped under the wheel. The driver fled moments later.

Police later went to Bailey’s home, where Aoki—one of the registered owners of the Audi—told officers she did not know where the vehicle was. While officers were present, Bailey arrived, parked the Audi, then ran into the house and locked the door. After several minutes, he exited and was taken into custody.

The Audi showed minor damage consistent with the collision. Bailey was taken to a hospital before being booked into jail and was expected to appear in bond court Tuesday.
