Miramar Family Demands Renewed Push to Solve 1997 Quadruple Murder

Nearly 30 years after one of Miramar’s most horrifying crimes, the family of four murder victims is pleading for renewed focus on the still-unsolved case.

On April 30, 1997, 69-year-old Theresa Laverne, her daughter Marie Altidore, and Marie’s two young children — 6-week-old Sabrina and 2-year-old Samantha — were found brutally murdered in their home. Theresa and Marie had been shot execution-style and beaten with a hammer. The two children were beaten to death.

Family attorney Kertch Conze called it “one of the most gruesome crimes ever committed in our city.” Video from that day shows Marie’s husband, George Altidore, arriving at the bloody scene, but police have never confirmed whether he is considered a suspect.

For the victims’ relatives, the decades have done nothing to ease the trauma. “It’s been 28 years, but for us, it’s 28 seconds,” said Marie’s sister, Albertche Maldy.

A recent episode of the Felonious Florida podcast, titled “Overkill,” reignited attention, prompting the family to urge Miramar Police to dedicate more resources. Police Chief Delrish Moss confirmed the case is still active and said a new detective has been assigned.

“We’ve not stopped working on this case,” Moss said. “My hope is that with more information out there, we’ll get that magic phone call.”

The family continues to believe George Altidore was involved, though police have made no announcement supporting that claim. They are urging anyone with information to contact investigators.
