Storms Knock Out Power and Delay Flights Across South Florida

Severe storms swept through South Florida on Saturday, leaving hundreds of residents in the dark and causing headaches for travelers.

According to Poweroutage.us, Miami-Dade reported 598 customers without electricity, while Broward County saw 211 outages. Utility crews worked through the day to restore service as heavy rain and wind lingered.

Air travel was also disrupted. At Miami International Airport, 82 flights were delayed, while Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport reported 33 delays and two cancellations. Travelers were urged to check with airlines for updated schedules as weather conditions continued to impact operations.

Despite the outages and travel delays, no weather warnings were in effect for either county as of Saturday evening. However, the National Weather Service issued a Tropical Storm Watch farther north, covering coastal Volusia and Brevard counties.

The unsettled weather comes during the peak of hurricane season, when tropical disturbances frequently affect Florida’s weather patterns. Officials reminded residents to remain alert to forecast updates and to have storm supplies ready in case of further system development.
