A serious crash involving multiple vehicles and a tractor-trailer left 29 people injured Thursday night in Miami-Dade County, officials said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews arrived to find several passenger cars heavily damaged. Thirteen people were hospitalized, including three children and one adult in critical condition who was taken as a trauma alert. The other 16 victims were treated at the scene.

Witness Luis Rodriguez described the chaos: “You could hear tires screeching, banging, crashing — you could even smell the burnt air.”

Traffic was diverted onto Ives Dairy Road after the collision caused a fuel leak, though all lanes later reopened. Authorities have not confirmed whether the truck driver will face charges.

Video shared on social media showed the wreckage of several cars alongside the large truck. Emergency responders from police, highway patrol, and fire rescue arrived within minutes.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
