A City of Miami police officer, Christian Vladimir Sanchez, 29, was arrested in Sunrise on Sunday after allegedly assaulting his wife in a domestic dispute.
Sanchez faces charges of domestic battery and robbery without a firearm. A judge set his bond at $50,000 during a court appearance on Wednesday.
According to police, Sanchez’s wife reported that he was heavily intoxicated after drinking rum at an Easter event. Upon returning home, she attempted to bathe their daughter, but Sanchez allegedly became aggressive after she rejected his advances. The situation escalated when he demanded her phone and began violently beating her.
An arrest report states that Sanchez struck his wife approximately 30 times while she was lying on a bed, threatening continued violence if she didn’t hand over her phone. A second person in the home witnessed and recorded part of the attack, later giving the footage to police. She also protected the couple’s child and attempted to call 911, but Sanchez allegedly grabbed the phone and fled the scene in a green Jeep.
Sunrise police later arrested Sanchez based on the video evidence and witness statements. The City of Miami Police Department confirmed Sanchez is currently relieved of duty with pay pending an internal investigation.
The case underscores ongoing concerns about domestic violence, even among law enforcement professionals.
