A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested and charged in connection with a domestic violence incident, according to court records.

Deputy Anthony Zayas is facing a battery charge stemming from the alleged incident. He was released from jail Monday night after posting bond and has been ordered to stay away from the victim.

In a statement, Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz expressed strong condemnation of the alleged conduct.

“I am angered and deeply disappointed by the arrest of one of my deputies for domestic violence,” she said. “There is absolutely no place in this agency, or in our profession, for individuals who engage in such behavior. Law enforcement officers must be examples of integrity, respect, and accountability — both in uniform and in their personal lives.”

Sheriff Cordero-Stutz also affirmed her support for domestic violence victims, pledging the department’s continued commitment to them.

Further details regarding the incident have not been released, and NBC6 reports that attempts to contact Zayas’ attorney for comment have so far been unsuccessful.
