Low Voter Turnout Marks Broward County Municipal Elections

Broward County held municipal elections on Tuesday, with just 9.7% of 271,845 registered voters casting ballots.

In Deerfield Beach, City Commissioner Todd Drosky defeated real estate investor Dan Herz to become the city’s new mayor, securing 56.29% of the vote, according to unofficial results. Drosky has served as a commissioner since 2017, while Herz, a vocal critic of the city, mounted a challenge but fell short.

In Miramar, Commissioner Yvette Colbourne easily won reelection for the city’s Seat 2, earning nearly 86% of the vote. Her opponent, Luis Pedraza, was forced to run as a write-in candidate due to a paperwork error. Colbourne has been on the Miramar Commission since 2013.

Despite the significance of local leadership, voter participation remained low, with less than 10% of eligible voters casting ballots.
