An 18-year-old man was shot and killed Monday evening following an argument at a park in Naranja, and police are now searching for the suspect.

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputies responded around 7 p.m. to the park near Southwest 141st Avenue and 264th Street. Officials say the victim, Flavio Alejandro Morales, was involved in a verbal altercation while playing sports when the other person pulled out a gun and shot him.

Morales was found on the ground with a gunshot wound and was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

Local residents were shaken by the violence. “I heard like three to four gunshots while I was in the shower,” one neighbor said. “Then I heard the helicopter circling after I got out.”

Authorities say the shooter fled the scene and remains unidentified. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“We need the community’s help,” said Detective Joseph Peguero. “We’re doing our part, but we can’t do it alone.”

Peguero also offered advice: “If you find yourself in a heated situation, walk away. It’s not worth your life.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
