Surveillance footage captured a harrowing scene in Davie as a 10-year-old boy used a hose to cool his burns after a fire erupted in his home Monday afternoon.

The blaze engulfed the mobile home on Southwest 132nd Terrace, leaving it in ruins. Alexandrea Vallejo, who was inside with her nephew, Isaiah Salmone, recalled hearing a loud pop before discovering the fire.

“I was just resting when I heard the noise. By the time I came out, it was already on fire,” she said.

The home, where Vallejo’s family of 11 had lived for 14 years, was deemed uninhabitable. Among the displaced family members were two sisters with children and their mother, who relies on dialysis.

Firefighters responded quickly, but the damage was irreversible. The family suspects the fire started when Isaiah attempted to plug something into an overloaded outlet.

Isaiah suffered second-degree burns on his arms, legs, and face. Some of his hair was also singed before he ran outside to douse himself with a hose. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The American Red Cross is assisting the 12 people affected, including six children. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
